Yoga Journey is an advanced course for qualified yoga teachers who wish to study, practise and teach in the tradition of the great yogi Professor Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar. It qualifies people to be teachers for the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation.

This unique approach integrates practical teachings about asana, pranayama, sound and meditative techniques with the teachings of the Yoga Sutra and other texts and emphasises the importance of adapting yoga to the individual. It looks at yoga as a tool for helping us in our lives - for health and healing, for self-discovery, for growing in wisdom, and for spiritual transformation.

The course is an exciting one both for the students and for the trainers, as the students are all experienced yoga teachers already. A large part of it is about the art of teaching individuals and the yoga of healing. Although this is a course about teaching yoga, personal development is a very important continuing theme, and to this end, all students have their own mentor whom they see regularly for individual lessons.

The course is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga.

A two-and-a-half-year course with Sarah Ryan and Liz Murtha, assisted by Heather Robinson and Colin Dunsmuir. It started in February 2009, at the Park Place Pastoral Centre, near Southampton. The next course will start in the second half of 2011.

The course is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga as an Advanced Course. Participants are rooted in a tradition that is becoming one of the most respected in the world. They are given the tools to help their students more, both in classes and on a one-to-one basis, whether their needs are to do with health, development or spiritual well-being. Kausthub Desikachar, our consultant and my mentor, is a longterm and continuing student of his father TKV Desikachar; he is a patron of the British Wheel of Yoga and a consultant to the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Those who receive the Yoga Journey diploma are seen as representatives of this lineage. It will be awarded only to people who have attained a certain standard: mere attendance is not enough. Assessment is continuous and regular feedback is given to students. It is not just another yoga course: the prime motivation for undertaking this course is to work within this tradition, as close as possible to the source, and in as up-to-date a way as possible.

The next Yoga Journey course will start in the second half of 2011. Applicants ideally should have a BWY or accredited diploma. However, applicants who fulfil all other criteria will be considered if they have done a yoga teaching course of similar weight and content. They must be committed to continuing self-development and, above all, have a love for yoga and wish to use their knowledge to help others. If you think you might be interested, do contact me, and also try to get experience of this tradition.
